Wall Taping
How To Have A Human Wallpaper Contest In Your
Office!
Duct Tape Wall Taping
Competition
The overall objective of this
competition is to duct tape an individual to a wall
and determine how long it takes before the tape
fails to hold him or her in place. The team with
the heaviest person, staying taped to the wall for
the longest time, and held in place with the least
amount of tape will be declared the winners.
Consider doing this just before a long weekend!
Teams will consist of four
members, one of which will be duct taped to a
wall. The person to be taped to the wall will
be weighed to the nearest pound on a standard
bathroom type scale.
Each team will be provided
at least 50 feet duct tape.
The contest official will
give the teams the signal to begin the
competition.
Two team members will be
responsible for holding a third member at least
12 inches off of the floor. The fourth team
member will use the duct tape to tape their team
member to the wall. Chair will be made
available to stand on.
There are no restrictions
on how the tape is used to secure the team
member to the wall, other than both ends of a
piece must be in contact with the wall. In
other words, a piece cannot go from the chest to
the wall. Rather, it must go from the wall,
across the chest, and on to the wall on the
other side.
Each team will have five
(5) minutes to secure one team member to the
wall with duct tape. On the signal from the
contest official, all teams must cease using the
duct tape.
Again, on the signal from
the contest official, elapsed time will be
monitored.
Once any part of the duct
taped member touches the floor, that person is
considered to have fallen off the wall, and time
will be stopped for that team.
The maximum time that a
team member can be taped to the wall will be
twenty (20) minutes. After twenty (20) minutes,
any person still taped to the wall will be
removed.
Each team must measure the
total length of duct tape they used. Tape that
gets tangled and discarded while trying to tape
a team member to the wall must be included in
the total length measurement. Thus, any length
of tape removed from a roll must be accounted
for.
The factors used to determine
the winners of this competition will be the
weight of the member taped to the wall, the
length of duct tape used to secure him or her to
the wall, and the time the team member was stuck
to the wall. The following formula will be used
to compute the score for each team.
Score=[weight of person (lb) x time (min)]
/weight of tape (lb)
The team with the highest final
score wins the competition.
Should two or more teams
have the same score (to 1 decimal place), the
team with the heaviest person taped to the wall
will be declared the winner. If the weights of
the team members are within 5 pounds, then the
team using the shortest length of tape will be
the winners. If these lengths are within 1
foot, then competition will be declared a tie.
No tampering with tape
while person is hanging on the wall.
Though you can tape their mouth!

WARNING
A word of
warning if you are going to try this taping to the
wall stunt.
A
fundraising event involving duct-taping a teacher to
a wall at a Perry, Ohio high school could have cost
him his life. The Akron Beacon Journal reports the
plan was to see if the grey tape could hold the
physics teacher once the portable stairs on which he
was standing were removed. Problems arose 80 minutes
into the duct-taping, when the teacher became
overheated and passed out. The tape prevented his
body heat from escaping through his clothing,
causing him to lose consciousness. He had 92 pieces
of duct tape holding him to the wall. He reportedly
said that all he remembers is getting hotter and
hotter. He said everyone told him later that the
tape held. Doctors say the stunt could’ve been fatal
for the 49 year old teacher had students and staff
not acted quickly.
Avoid duct taping someone to the wall in crucifix
position - and having to call the paramedics because
they started suffocating (feet need to be properly
supported).
And, of course there is the bladder and kidney
damage that can happen if you aren’t willing to
suffer the embarrassment of lack of bladder control
after a few hours.
Before you do this stunt - carefully weigh the
potential dangers. Have a 9-1-1 access phone
handy... many have needed it!
Start by having the person stand on a chair or box
to support them while taping. Put more tape on the
legs - this is where most of the weight will be
carried. If you want to tape someone to the wall
using a minimum amount of tape, use most of the tape
on the legs and very little on the upper body. You
can tape a person to a wall with a roll or less of
tape if you follow these directions. If you are
selling the tape strips to raise money, go for as
many as possible - any length longer than one foot
each.
Note: We don't recommend doing this
stunt. If you attempt it, you are assuming all
responsibility.
